Seth as part of a consortium, is building the Black Horse Square /Cais do Sodré Sewage Intercept, which includes the Agências Pumping Station and the respective Underwater Outfall.
The job, awarded by SIMTEJO (Tagus and Trancão Rivers Municipalities Integrated Sewage) is to be finalised in 300 days.
When in operation, the Agências Pumping Station, to be built within the scope of the Black Horse Square – Alcântara Intercept System, will pump waste water (sewage) from the part of the city of Lisbon that will flow to it.
The pumping station will receive the wastewaters by gravity from a collection chamber located in Black Horse Square and will pump them along a new route flowing by gravity to the Alcântara Wastewater Treatment Plant.
For the purpose it will be equipped with four pumps each having a capacity of 500 litres per second.
Also a part of the works contract and associated with the Pumping Station is an underwater outfall, which will be used to divert the inflow to the Station into the Tagus in the event of a breakdown or impossibility of operation.
The figures and characteristics of the two jobs warrant a word:

The Pumping Station Building - area on plan: 280 m2
- total height: 12.1 m (equivalent of a four-storey building) built entirely below ground level and at a distance of 8 m from the river Tagus
- maximum excavation depth: -6.0 CD
- roof slab level: +5.30 CD
- maximum height of tide: +4.00 CD
- reinforced concrete structure: C35/45 XA3 concrete
- lateral containment and bottom plug: CSM technology using steel sections as rebar cage.

Underwater outfall To be of Ductile Cast Iron, supported by reinforced concrete blocks; these, in turn, will rest on pairs of steel piles consisting of HED 300 sections that, passing through the mud layers some 15 to 17 m deep, will be driven into the resistant stratum.

It should also be pointed out that when the whole system comes into operation, Black Horse Square will be completely free of the present odours.
